As Apple was preparing to launch a trio of the iPhone X, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 8, Samsung were in for an assault. The 10th anniversary Apple event was the perfect moment for rival Samsung to tease –what me finally be– a flagship phone with a foldable screen. Perhaps a signal for those who were about to shell their bucks on the new iPhones, to hold on longer…something better was coming up.

Bloomberg  reported that Koh Dong-jin, Samsung’s president of mobile business, saying that the company had sightings on the 2018 release of a smartphone with a bendable screen. All indications point towards the foldable screen being Samsung’s major project next year. And, for sure they will launch the product.

So, it’s fair to say that the latest claim — that 2018 might finally be the year of the folding phone — should be taken with a large pinch of salt. Especially as the timing of the tease coincides with the most important date in the Apple calendar: iPhone X day.

And, well, let’s face it, concept smartphones don’t have a great record of ever seeing the light of day either. Its a wait and see, when the leaks finally start rolling.
